2019

• Plans are in the offing to have this website hosted by Hopkins on their website. This website, more than 20 years old and originally hand-coded in HTML 2.0, might be described as rustic by today’s web engineering standards, but it is ours with all its pleasures and shortcomings. If you care about the fate and appearance of this class page in the future (still the only one according to the Development Office people), let Tom or Hutch or Dr. John know so that we can bequeath our ghosts to history in the manner you think fitting.

2018

• Bob Schulz died on November 27, 2018. We extend our sympathies to his wife Stephany and his children.

• Deena Mack, Bill's wife, has retired from her position in the Development Office.

2015

• Ken Paul, Sr. died on June 29

• Barbara Riley has announced that she will retire as Head of School in June, 2016.

• Our 50th Reunion took place on June 13, 2015. A sumptuously lovely time was had by all who attended, about half the class. For those who did not, Ave atque vale.

2014

• Sal Demaio sent us a lovely Christmas music video.

 

2013

• No news posted this year. I wonder if we're tired or just replaced by social media. I've been remiss about asking for updates.

 

2012

• Mr. Rood died in May.

 

2011

• John Mordes, your class prez and webmaster, is still working full time and traveling as time permits. This past summer took him and Sunny to the Canadian Arctic, to Greenland, and to Spain. The cure for juvenile diabetes remains elusive, but the hunt goes on.

• Dick Hutchinson is a vice president of the board of the Mary Wade Home.

• Tom Hadley's son Erik married this year. Tom is off to Macchu Picchu.

• Paul O'Connell  is a DOD instructor in counterintelligence.

• John Braman is now in Santa Fe, NM and busy with international education projects.

• Bill Walik is still in Seattle and working in finance.

• John Cherniavsky  is now acting deputy division director at the National Science Foundation.

• David Kiphuth and his wife Linda are in Saratoga Springs NY. David just had a one person show of his at at a local gallery. He and Linda are producing their second record album. 

 

2010

• Our 45th Reunion was held May 7-8, 2010 and fades into history, as do we. It coincided with the 350th Anniversary of HGS. Click here for the archive.

• We have received information on George Grande, who has become a national figure in sports broadcasting (June).

• HGS makes the Forbes top 20 list of best prep schools. Click here to read more.

 

2009

• Paul O'Connell writes that he is currently teaching at the DOD Joint Counterintelligence Training Academy. (Dec)

• Sal Demaio has send a us a holiday recording.

• We have received some remarkable news about Mr. Kamen Ganchev (Aug). "Dr. Ganchev was a brave and underrated man," says our correspondent.

• We have heard from Ken Ralph, who has checked in after 44 years. (Aug)

• We have heard from Bill Conniff. He now lives in Idaho and has formed a software company. (Aug)

• Kudos to Nick Doob who was thanked from the stage during the Oscars on February 22 for his contribution as a cinematographer to the winning documentary film, Smile Pinki. (Feb)

• Our 45th reunion will be later than usual: on June 12, 2010 to coincide with the big celebration of the school's 350th anniversary.

 

2008

• We have learned from his sister that Mr. Richmann has died. (May 27)

• Our upcoming 45th reunion in 2010 will coincide with the 350th anniversary of the founding of HGS. It promises to be a blast.

 

2007

• Mr. Preston died at age 86 on March 5, 2007. Follow the link to read more about this much admired teacher.

• Jim Waterman has posted new contact information.

 

2006

• Mr. Erich died at age 87 on April 25.

• There is a little year-end news from or about Bob Schulz, Jim Waterman, John Cherniavsky, Tom Delaney, Tom Burkhard, Bill Walik, and Nick Doob.

• As the year closes, we find that we no longer have working email for Ken Ralph, Bill Walik, Jim Nippes, Greg Jones, or Rob Pulleyn. If anyone has information, do let us know.

• A little bit of information about Mr. Meinecke was sent to us (August).

• A Nick Doob film is coming out this fall.

• The Webmaster had 30 seconds of glory. (June)

• We have a note from Mr. Preston's daughter, Margaret (June).

• Mr. Erich died at age 87 on April 25.

2005

• Our 40th Reunion in May, 2005 is a now one more grand chapter in our history!

• Your HGS '65 webmaster has set us a scholarship fund in honor of his parents. 

• Bob Schulz found one of his old unit slips! Remember those? 

• David Kiphuth has checked in with a long message and sent a family photo (July).

• Sal Demaio has checked in again and sent a family photo (May).

• Ben Brown has checked in with an extraordinary story and an email address (May).

• Larry Lane hopes that his adaptation of Bartleby the Scrivener will open off Broadway in November.

• Nick Payne's son has informed us that he passed away in 2001. (Feb).

• Bill Kneisel was awarded the Hopkins Medal, the School's highest honor, on Sunday November 6, 2005. It was a remarkable milestone in the history of our class, and we will soon have on line more about the event and some photos. Here's a picture of Bill delivering his acceptance speech in Heath Commons. 

• Karl Crawford passed away on the morning of July 13, 2005. A remarkably well attended memorial service was held at HGS on Sunday, October 2, 2005. Messers Harrison, Albert, and Jorgensen, among others from our past, were there. Here's one picture of the assembled audience.

• In 2005, after looking back over the opportunities that HGS had opened up to a kid from Fair Haven, Dr. John Mordes and his parents thought it would be a good thing to try to help others have a similar chance. To that end, he has established a scholarship fund in the name of his parents. Click here to read the full story. 

 

2004

• Gordon Clark has a new email address 

• John Heath our gentle Senior School math teacher, died on August 17, 2004 at the age of 86 :(

• Tom Burkhard received the school's Distinguished Alumnus Award for 2004 on May 8.
  To celebrate the occasion, many of our classmates traveled to New Haven for a special 39th Reunion. :)

2002

• Bob Schulz has written that his daughter Ellen, Harvard senior fencing co-captain, was named to the 2002 All-Ivy women's fencing team on March 12! See the Ivy League's official web site at: www.ivyleaguesports.com.

• Bill Knight - aka William Atherton - is in a play, "The Castle," in NYC running through March 31, 2002. The play is presented by the Manhattan Ensemble and the theater is in lower Manhattan, around Mercer and Broom.

• John Braman is now President of ISACS, the Independent School Association of the Central States and has shared some fascinating news with us.

 

2001

• September, 2001: Unlike other classes, HGS '65 appears not to have been touched directly by the events of September 11.
