45th Reunion | 2010

The 45th Reunion of the HGS class of 1965 took place on Friday June 11 and Saturday June 12, 2010. It was an extraordinary event, principally because so many of our class returned, many for the first time in 45 years. Among the returnees who care were Paul Howe, who flew in from Kazakhstan, Bill Coniff, from Boise, Idaho, Peter Nagel, from Kittery Point, Maine, Bill Walik, from Seattle, Herb Stocking, Jeff Burt, and Michael Lopez.

Friday, June 11

  • We began with a dinner at the Graduate Club on Elm Street.

  • A few classmates also attended a Reception at the home of Head of School Barbara Riley.

Saturday, June 12

  • The day began with Luncheon at the Heath Center. Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented to Judge Guido Calabrese of the Class of 1954. He gave a delightful oration.

  • What followed for '65 was a "Hot Stove" roundtable discussion with George Grande, who spent his Sixth Form year with us. George is a nationally know sportscaster, one of the founding members of ESPN, and let us in a wonderfully articulate and thought-provoking discussion of the sports world.

  • Then followed the dedication of Thompson Hall – named for Mary Brewster Thompson, Principal of  Prospect Hill from 1939 to 1952. This impressive addition to the campus was made possible, in part, by a donation from John Malone '59. A portrait of Mr. Malone was unveiled at the dedication ceremony.

  • The day concluded with a festive picnic “on the Hill” (tented with table seating) with the New Haven Chamber Orchestra performing and fireworks.

  • Return to Heath Commons to continue the evening festivities
